Community Gardens

Community gardens are a key way to strengthen our food security and sovereignty, creating more resilient and healthy communities.

Kings County Example: Community Gardens Kentville and Berwick

Focused on growing edible gardens and increase awareness around food insecurity in Kentville by growing and sharing produce. This work started with getting the town of Kentville to convert the town’s gardens into edibles and maintain these gardens. In the last year,  volunteers have built over 40 garden plots public parks in Kentville and supported another 30 gardens in Berwick. We hope to support this project to continue to build new gardens and we have plans to support a market gardener in getting started next year. The vegetables, herbs, and edible flours harvested from these gardens is used by the community and in our community kitchen.’
